SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Washington County Attorney's office has cleared a St. George police officer of wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of a man last month.
The investigation, conducted by the Washington County Sheriff's Office and Hurricane Police Department, stemmed from a September 23rd confrontation in which Jewel -K- Bess, was shot twice while fleeing police.
The 34-year-old St. George man was driving, and officers had stopped his car to arrest his passenger after recognizing he was a wanted man.
Bess fled on foot, and police said he pointed a gun at the pursuing officers. One, whose name has not been released, shot him in the torso more than once.
The shooting is the third involving St. George police since May, and the first incident this year in which the suspect died.
