CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) -- The Republican party of Iron County has narrowed its field of seven candidates to three for the position of Iron County Sheriff.
The names of acting Sheriff Mark Gower, Bret Allred and John Graff have been forwarded to Iron County Commissioners, who will interview and select the replacement for former sheriff Dude Benson.
Benson resigned in August after he pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and misuse of public money. He will be sentenced November third.
Gower has filled the position on an interim basis since Benson went on paid administrative leave in May 2003.
