(KSL News) -- Help in the form of rubber and laces is on its way to children in El Salvador.

Brooks Dame traveled to El Salvador last summer to film a documentary about children living and eating out of dumps. He noticed most children were barefoot, so when he got back to the US he started collecting shoes.

In six weeks people from all over the country donated 6,000 pairs of shoes.

Brooks Dame, Documentary Filmmaker: "I'm just really thankful and grateful. We expected to get a couple boxes full. We thought maybe we'd take down a couple suitcases."

Instead of suitcases Dame is now ready to ship ten pallets full of boxes of shoes to El Salvador. Next month Dame and a team of volunteers will fly to El Salvador to personally deliver the shoes to the children and have Thanksgiving dinner.
