There aren't enough flu shots to go around. The few that are available, are being met with long lines. One location offered 200 shots this afternoon, and they were gone within a couple of hours.
The word is out there that the flu shot is hard to get this year, so whenever some are available, there are plenty of lines.
One healthcare company sold some shots at a Salt Lake City ShopKo store this afternoon...and if you arrived 15 minutes after they began, you were out of luck.
A flu shot is enough to make you squint your eyes and grit your teeth.
"Okay, there we go."
But it may also be enough to save your life.
"That wasn't too bad, was it?"
Yeah, the flu is coming...always bad news for senior citizens.
So when word got out that a health care company was selling precious shots at the Sugarhouse Shopko, nobody seemed to mind waiting an hour or more.
This year is very different, flu shots are in short supply. This location only had 2-hundred shots, and the line had more than 200 people in it.
"I think they all should have one."
"A lot of people aren't getting it that need it."
But there's nothing these workers can do about it. They just had to do the best they could...with the few supplies they had, .knowing full well that not everyone was going to get one.
We all knew the flu could be a problem this year... especially with the shortage of vaccinations.
The Centers for Disease Control released a state-by-state analysis of where the flu is spreading. Most states have nothing to report, but seven are reporting sporadic flu activity. One of them is Utah.
It just shows how important getting that flu shot is, especially for senior citizens right here at home.
