(KSL News) -- The candidates for Utah's second Congressional District sat down for a special edition of Decision 2004, A Conversation with the Candidates tonight.

Democrat Jim Matheson and Republican John Swallow engaged in a lively discussion on a range of current political issues.

Rep. Jim Matheson, (D) Utah: "In both years I voted in congress, I voted to ban partial birth abortion."

John Swallow, (R) Candidate for Congress: "Jim participated in and allowed the procedure to continue for at least another year... We can test weapons without actually testing them on computers."

Rep. Jim Matheson: "People in the department of defense and physicists say it's gonna lead to testing. Are we really going to spend billions of taxpayer dollars and never test a weapon?"

John Swallow: "Jim may say in Utah that he votes with Utah, but 75 percent of the time he's voting with the national democratic party."

Rep. Jim Matheson: "I'm one of the most independent voting members in congress as far as not voting with party leadership."
