OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- The rifle deer hunt starts Saturday, and if you don't have your general deer permit already -- forget it. You're out of luck.
The last deer permit for the northern region -- the last to sell out in Utah -- went yesterday.
The northern region, including canyons north of Interstate 80 and much of the north slope of the Uinta Mountains, has been the last to sell out every year since the number of deer permits was capped in 1993.
But wildlife managers expect hunters in the northern region to have, for the first time in years, hunting as good as anywhere in the state.
The northeastern region's permits were sold out in August. Southern, central and southeastern regions had more applicants than permits, so none was sold over the counter.
