(KSL News) A killer on the loose, a community left reeling after a shooting in Salt Lake.

Detectives are still facing many questions this morning in connection with that shooting, most importantly the identity of the killer.

Police say it all began when 21-year-old Jeffrey L. Maestas got out of his car on 700 North to confront a man on the sidewalk. Moments later, witnesses say that man pulled out a gun and began shooting, killing Maestas.

Ashley Bacus: "It was four or five pops."

Det. Dwayne Baird/ Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "According to a witness, he got in a car and took off."

Police impounded a vehicle in Salt Lake City last night not far from where the shooting took place. We're told it could be the vehicle the suspect used to leave the scene.

Police say they've interviewed several witnesses and have been able to get a good description of the suspect, but so far have been unable to make any arrests.
