BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) -- Skipping school in Box Elder County could soon be costly.

County Commissioners yesterday unanimously approved an ordinance establishing fines for minors who are truant and guardians who aid their truancies.

The ordinance imposes a fine of 50 dollars, not to exceed 500 dollars, for each offense.

It will be imposed if minors aren't in a school-approved place during school hours unless they are accompanied by a guardian, have a permission slip, are married or are dealing with an emergency.
