(Salt Lake City-AP) -- Earl Holding's Grand America Hotel received the Triple-As highest rating.
It joins Deer Valley's Stein Eriksen Lodge as Utah's only designated Five Diamond Hotels.
Holding, the owner of Sinclair Oil Corporation, built the marble-clad, 24-story Grand America for the 2002 Winter Olympics. He spent a reported 185 (M)million dollars in cash.
Holding also owns Snowbasin ski area near Ogden and Idaho's Sun Valley Resort.
The American Automobile Association announce the ranking today.
Salt Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau spokesman Jason Mathis said the 777-room Grand America has more convention groups looking at Salt Lake City for their gatherings.
He said the fancy hotel attracts the scientific, pharmaceutical and medical crowds.
The Grand America has large rooms, chandeliers from Milan, hand-woven wool carpets from England, Italian marble bathrooms and more than 700 employees.
