(KSL News) -- Do you have a long list of presents to buy this year? Well Salt Lake City is trying to help make the task a little bit easier for shoppers.

Mayor Rocky Anderson today announced the beginning of free parking in all metered parking stalls throughout the city.

Free parking begins tomorrow, and runs through January 2.

Anderson says he hopes the move will encourage more people to enjoy shopping, entertainment and holiday events downtown.

All free parking meters will be wrapped with a green bag and red ribbon.
