SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The troubled Utah Winter Games will still go in January, but they will be on a much smaller scale.

Ski Utah Executive Director Kip Pitou agreed this week to take over organization of the annual winter sports competition.

All seven resorts in Salt Lake and Summit counties sponsor the Utah Winter Games.

Event organizers are facing projected expenses of 26-thousand dollars with only ten-thousand dollars in the bank.

Pitou said this year's Winter Games will be reduced largely to skiing and snowboarding events while he pursues corporate sponsors to cover the remaining bills.

The games last year involved about eight-thousand amateur Utah athletes of all ages and abilities.
