SALT LAKE COUNTY -- A convict known as the Sugar House Rapist wants to be released after 38 years in prison. But at least one member of the parole board says it's too soon.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports Ronald Dale Easthope terrorized women in Sugar House for more than four months starting in November 1970. At least 10 rapes were attributed to him.
The last time he was released from prison on parole, in 1981, he raped a 17-year-old girl.
Now, at age 63, Easthope told the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole on Tuesday that 38 years behind bars is enough.
But the Salt Lake Tribune reports parole board member Jesse Gallegos refuses to grant his release until Easthope finishes a full sex-offender treatment program. Easthope has started the treatment several times but has always dropped out.
Gallegos will recommend to the full parole board that Easthope spend at least 15 more months behind bars in order to complete the program.
