PROVO, Utah (AP) -- B-Y-U is likely to announce today the future of football coach Gary Crowton. The school has scheduled a news conference for noon.
However, the Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret Morning news, citing anonymous sources, are already reporting that Crowton appears to be on the way out.
The Cougars finished 5-and-6 this year, and were shut out of a third straight bowl appearance by arch-rival Utah, who embarrassed the Cougars 52-to-21.
The 47-year-old Crowton became only the second B-Y-U football coach since 1972 when he replaced the legendary Lavell Edwards after the 2000 season.
In his first year, Crowton guided the Cougars to 12 straight wins. But the season ended with consecutive losses, starting a downward spiral that continued through this season.
