SALT LAKE CITY (AP/KSL News) -- The Utah Utes have done it. They have become the first team from a mid-major conference to earn their way into the Bowl Championship Series.

As expected, the Utes will go to the Fiesta Bowl in Tempe, Arizona.

Their opponent will be the Pittsburgh Panthers, champions of the Big East Conference. The game will be played New Year's night. The 9-3 Pitt team has been ranked 21st in the nation by the coaches.

It will be the last game the Utes will play under coach Urban Meyer. Meyer is headed to Florida.

The BCS national championship game this year will be played at the Orange Bowl in Miami. It will feature top-ranked Southern California against Number Two Oklahoma.
