Samantha Hayes reporting A Utah soldier was very close to where the deadly attack on a U-S military base in Mosul occurred. His wife is now very concerned about security around the troops.

Jolene Miller thought spending Christmas without her husband would be the worst thing, until his base came under attack this week. Then she was left waiting anxiously for a call.

Jolene Miller: “I was ecstatic to hear his voice. I was ecstatic to know he's okay."

But after that initial relief, Jolene Miller felt something different.

Jolene Miller: “When I found out today it was a suicide bomber I was flabbergasted. I was shocked, upset, furious because I had the belief my husband was safe where he's at."

Jolene’s husband works at mental health clinic on base.

Still, Miller says her husband was worried about insurgents, and stayed away from the very place that was attacked.

Jolene Miller: “He doesn't eat in the mess hall because of the danger of it being a large area where people congregate.."

The realization that an attack can happen anywhere- even on base- has Miller extremely concerned about security.

Jolene Miller: “How many times had my husband seen that worker? How many times is he passing other people who might be insurgents, suicide bombers?"

And Miller has a better understanding of the danger than most: She too is a medic in the Army Reserves. But the duty she feels toward her country is matched by the desire to have her family safely reunited.

Jolene Miller: “Now they know anything is possible."

Miller's husband's tour is scheduled to be over in June, but she knows it could easily be extended.
