(KSL News) -- Police set off a controlled avalanche near Bridal Veil Falls that sent a lot of snow tumbling down.
Officers are clearing the freeways and shooting down large snowpacks to lessen the danger for avalanches in the area.
The large amount of snow that slid down the canyon ended up partly blocking the Provo River. Water ended up flowing across old Highway 89.
Crews went to work immediately digging through the snow to create another path for the river.
