Alex Cabrero Reporting Head to Sundance and you may see as many bands trying to make it big as you do movies. One band you may already know, and if not, you might know them soon.

We went to the Great Salt Lake for a story on a music band at Sundance. Why? Well, it's because of a song about one of Salt Lake’s most famous residents. The band may be from Nashville, but their inspiration is somewhere out there.

It's good old fashioned country music from Nashville, but in a city full of bands with big dreams "The Readings" are also turning to Park City, hoping to get noticed at Sundance.

Eric Reading, "The Readings": “Maybe get some of the songs used in film and get somewhere that way.”

You probably don't recognize the songs they played on KSL radio Saturday morning. But with one song, you just might know the story.

Song: "Floyd Lives alone on the outskirts of Salt Lake."

A year ago we told you about Floyd, Pink Floyd--a flamingo who escaped from the Tracy Aviary years ago and has lived on Salt Lake ever since. Floyd’s story went national, making it to some songwriters the Readings work with.

Chris Reading, "The Readings": “And then he gets to the part of the big flamingo and I said, laughing, ‘What’s this?’ And he told me the story.”

Jim Platte is a member of "Friends For Floyd”, a group who wants to bring more flamingos here from South America.

Jim Platte, "Friends For Floyd": “There’s been a suggestion he’s lonely.”

Only problem is, it's against the law. Some say it would hurt the lake’s ecosystem. The group is trying to get Governor Huntsman's permission, but that could take a while, if at all.

Eric Reading: “It really is just kind of quirky and fun.”

The Readings don't get too much into the politics of it all. They just wanted to sing a fun song.

Chris Reading: “If it in any way helps Friends for Floyd, that would be great.”
