(KSL News) -- UHP says a Payson driver who led police on a high speed chase and died when he crashed head-on into a semi-trailer truck, apparently did it on purpose.

Investigators say it all began when police tried to pull over a Honda Civic on a traffic violation. The driver tried to take off, heading south on the freeway.
State troopers spiked the car's tires. But the driver maintained control until crashing head-on into the semi truck that had slowed to try to avoid a collision.
