(KSL News) -- Retired Utah businessman and arts patron, Izzy Wagner, has died.

Eight years ago Wagner saw a dream come to fruition in downtown Salt Lake with the opening of the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. The center sits on the property where Wagner was born and raised and where he started his business, manufacturing burlap bags. The center was named for his mother.

Wagner also was a generous donor in the creation of the Jewish Community Center.

Friends say he was generous to a fault, making a fortune and giving most of it back to the community.

Wagner died at his home of natural causes; he was 89.
