(KSL News) Heavy rain and low visibility factor in to a tragic accident Monday night by Kearns High School.

Lt. Mike Wardle/ Salt Lake County Sheriff's Dept: "It's one of those nights when we ought to slow down and try to be really cautious out here."

About 7 pm a father took his 10-year-old son to sign up for a soccer league. Heavy rain was pouring down at the time. The man parked his car at Kearns High School. He and his son were in the crosswalk going to the recreation center across the street when a northbound car struck the man. The boy wasn't hit.

A Life Flight helicopter took the man to the hospital in critical condition. His name hasn't been released.

The County's Major Accident Team is investigating. The weather appears to be a major factor.
