SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A memorial has been set for the Salt Lake City high school cheerleader who suddenly died from bacterial meningitis.

16-year-old Madeline Hales died Monday morning from the rare disease. She was hospitalized over the weekend after staying home from school Thursday and Friday.

Hales was a cheerleader, actress and honor role student at East High School.

Her memorial service will be held on Friday at noon in the Monument Park L-D-S Stake Center at 1300 South Wasatch Drive.

Students are also planning their own outdoor vigil at the high school on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Hale's sudden death has lead some of the students to take antibiotics to protect themselves against the disease.
