Carole Mikita ReportingThe Mormon Tabernacle Choir is holding an audition, but it's not for singers. No, it's for RINGERS! As in Bell Ringers.

Plans are being put in place for a new group on Temple Square, a new sound there – hand bells. The sound is rich, the art form ancient. Now Tom Waldron will take that tradition to help create The Bells at Temple Square. He taught high school bell choirs and as a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, taught his colleagues bell-ringing.

Waldron makes it look easy, but it's not. No experience with bells necessary for those who audition. Waldron wants musicians and believes this new group will simply add to the rich vocal and instrumental sounds already coming from Temple Square.

Tom Waldron: "It has the appeal of a harp, which is a heavenly instrument, we think...."

The audition for Bells on Temple Square is Saturday, March 5th at 10 a.m. at the Conference Center. Fifteen to 25 volunteers will be chosen. And you will be able to hear them perform during concerts which will be scheduled later.
