(KSL News) -- A 22-year old man is in poor condition after trying to jump a deep ravine on his snow mobile this afternoon in the American Fork Canyon.

Utah County Sheriff's officers say he was snow mobiling in the Silver Lake area. He was following a friend who jumped over a steep ravine; he didn't make it and was ejected from his snow mobile.

He suffered compression to his spine, but they were not sure if he broke his back or not.

He was life flighted to Utah Valley Hospital.
