FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) -- The driver of a tanker-trailer carrying butane that crashed and exploded in Davis County was charged Tuesday with a misdemeanor.
Travis Mortensen was charged with one count of recklessly causing a catastrophe.
A Utah Highway Patrol investigation found that faulty brakes were to blame for the Feb. 9 crash, which sparked a butane fireball and forced the evacuation of about 1,500 people in Kaysville. No one was injured.
Davis County District Attorney Steve Mayor said Mortensen was aware he was having brake problems but failed to repair them.
The charge against Mortensen carries up to a year in jail and a $5,000 fine.
