SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Governor Huntsman has scheduled a special session of the legislature for April 20th. That's when final action on the bill that rebukes the federal "No Child Left Behind" law is likely to be considered.

However, the Utah Senate could still take up the bill today before adjourning, making that session a moot point.

Utah wants to prioritize the federal education law behind its own system of measuring performance outcomes for students.

A bill now awaiting a final vote from the Utah Senate would do that. The measure has already passed the House of Representatives and has the support of the governor.

Yesterday, Huntsman asked to delay final action on the bill to give the state time to negotiate with the federal Department of Education.

Senate President John Valentine of Orem, said he wants to honor the request, but couldn't "guarantee" anything.
