Sam Penrod ReportingWords turned into punches thrown at a home in Sandy last night. When it was all over, a 15-year old boy was left in critical condition.

The boy was hit by another 15-year old last night, apparently because of a dispute at school earlier in the day. Now the victim has a skull fracture, needed surgery and is still in the hospital.

The fight last night apparently was very short, only two punches hit the victim, but one of the blows hit him in the head causing very serious injuries.

The trouble started at junior high school when the victim apparently shoved the suspect. The two showed up to ahouse last night with claims there was a party. But police say there was no party, instead a fight broke out on the front lawn.

15-year old Jacob Oakeson was hit in the head twice by another 15-year old. A parent at the home quickly broke up the fight and the teen went home, only to have to be rushed to the hospital an hour later.

Police say fights between teenagers are common, but hope that from this incident teens will learn that just a simple fight or punch can be life threatening.

Lt. John Eining, Sandy Police Dept.: “This is not an uncommon thing, in your high schools and junior highs, fights happen every day in the Salt Lake Valley at that level. It was unfortunate that this one ended in the type of injury that it did. "

The victim was brought by his parents to Primary Children's Medical Center about midnight last night after he started vomiting. The hospital contacted police who began a criminal investigation.

They know who the suspect is, and are continuing the investigation to determine if or what charges should be filed.

Again the victim is said to be in critical condition with a serious head injury from this fight.
