SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A new tool designed to help find missing children faster is now in the hands of the Salt Lake City police.
A Florida-based nonprofit organization called "A Child is Missing" that helps law enforcement with the recovery of children made the tool available.
It's a high-tech telephone alert system that is capable of relaying information about missing persons at the rate of one-thousand phone calls a minute.
Utah Attorney General spokesman Paul Murphy said the system will be particularly helpful in finding those missing persons who don't meet Amber Alert criteria.
Murphy also said unlike Amber Alerts, which cost thousands of dollars, the telephone alert is free.
The nonprofit group has been credited with 83 safe recoveries nationwide in the past 36 months.
