SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office is investigating an apparent inmate suicide at the Utah State Prison.
40-year-old Steven Carr was found dead at about noon yesterday, just 20 minutes after officers had made contact with him during a routine head-count. Prison officials say he apparently hanged himself in a cell at the Olympus Mental Health Facility.
Carr had been in and out of prison four times since 1996, when he was convicted in Ogden's 2nd District Court of theft and carrying a concealed and dangerous weapon. He was convicted in 3rd District Court of second-degree robbery in June 2001.
