LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A Utah man facing death penalty charges in a knife attack on two children in Mesquite has been charged with trying to shove a guard off a jail balcony.
21-year-old Beau Maestas was charged yesterday (Monday) with felony battery by a prisoner in the Thursday scuffle with two corrections officers at the Clark County jail.
Officers say Maestas struggled with them during contraband investigation -- and tried to shove one guard over a balcony railing.
The guard wasn't hurt, and Maestas was subdued and handcuffed.
Maestas and his 18-year-old sister -- Monique Maestas -- are due for trial late in May on multiple charges in the attack that killed three-year-old Kristyanna Cowan and left her sister, 12-year-old Brittney Bergeron paralyzed.
