Sam Penrod ReportingTwo men have been critically injured in a service bay at Henry Day Ford in West Valley City this afternoon. The men were apparently pinned a customer's car.
This is a very unfortunate situation and police say it appears just to be a bad accident. It happened about 3:00 this afternoon when an 82-year old man came to the service department to bring in his Ford Expedition for some work. That’s when apparently his foot slipped off the brake and hit the gas. The vehicle actually drove right through the garage door and into the service area.
Two service workers in the garage were hit. One was knocked underneath the SUV, the other was pinned up against the wall.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and took about 15-20 minutes to get both victims removed from the vehicle and able to get medical care.
Both men were airlifted to the hospital. One is said to be in critical condition. The other, who was knocked under the vehicle, is said to be in very critical condition. The 82-year old driver was very shaken up. He was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance.
Police say it is possible that the driver may have had slippery feet, because he had been out of the vehicle just before the accident.
