PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Demolition has started on the old Maeser school in Provo.
Crews recently tore down the old gymnasium and the cafeteria, a necessary move in the plan to turn the building into senior fixed-income housing.
The gym and the cafeteria were 1957 additions to the school, which was first built in 1898.
Crews have also gone forward with some interior demolition that will prepare the inside for renovation. When finished, the senior housing facility will have 32 separate units.
The goal is to have the building operating within the year.
