Sandra Yi ReportingA man is under arrest for a string of burglaries in Layton. Police credit a passer-by for his capture. She called them when she saw the suspect at a church yesterday. He was sleeping on the grass.
Officers went to talk to him and identified the man as 18-year old Skylar Anderson. He had a hunting knife and a bag that was partially open. Police say Anderson had stolen items in the bag, including a camera that was taken in a recent home burglary.
They arrested him on a warrant, then discovered the suspect was linked to other burglaries, including one at nearby Smiths store and a car wash.
Craig Gibson, Assistant Layton Police Chief: "Coincidentally, one of the people that caught him in the Smiths had seen him and had an encounter with him the night the car was burglarized, trying to cash some coins. He recognized him from that, so it's highly likely this person would have continued to commit these kinds of crimes in the area."
Three churches within blocks of each other in Layton were also burglarized over the weekend. Police say the burglar ransacked the churches, looking for quick money. They say Anderson is a suspect in those cases as well, but he has not been charged.
Police say Anderson also had drug paraphernalia, and believe he was burglarizing places looking for money to support his drug habit.
