(KSL News)--Investigators say a lit cigarette is the cause of an early morning apartment explosion.

Police say a 42-year old man fell asleep on his couch with a lit cigarette around 3:30 am. The cigarette dropped into a crate holding two butane canisters.
The canisters exploded and blew out a window and patio door in his apartment.
The man was sent to the hospital with burns on his arms, legs, and head.
