SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) -- A Tooele couple will stand trial in connection with the January death of their five-month old son.

39-year-old Kevin P. Long and 28-year-old Connie Jean Long have each been charged with one count of second-degree felony child abuse homicide. They also face three counts of second-degree felony child abuse.

The couple was arraigned last week.

Prosecutors alleged that Kevin Long, while in the presence of his wife, hit the baby, stuck a pacifier in his mouth and wrapped him in an afghan to stop him from crying, causing the baby to suffocate.

Prosecutor Dave Cundick said the child was not discovered until the next day.

Cundick said when police arrived they spotted bruises on the child who was already dead.
