PRICE, Utah (AP) -- East Carbon High will close its doors after this school year.

Last night, the Carbon School District board voted to shut down the school, effective this fall.

The vote in favor of the closure was the culmination of a proposal presented last week by a special committee. The recommendation was based on low enrollment, limited courses and financial stresses.

East Carbon High's 117 students in grades 7th through 12th are set to go to Carbon High and Mont Harmon Junior High in Price.

However, some parents say they will explore other options. They include starting a petition for their own charter school or sending their kids to Green River High School in the Emery School District. Parents said anything would be better than a transfer to Price.
