Sammy Linebaugh reporting A happy ending for a freak inudstrial accident in West Jordan. It was a long, risky rescue for emergency teams as they work to free a man pinned against a grocery store loading dock.

The grocery store worker is in good condition this morning. Emergency crews worked slowly and methodically to free him when he became trapped between a loading dock and a semi trailer.

It all started just before 7:30 last night at 9000 S. Redwood Road. The man was helping to unload a delivery from the trailer. Fire crews say that's when his right leg and right hand somehow became wedged between the loading dock and the trailer door.

West Jordan fire crews arrived on scene and decided the rescue was going to be extremely difficult. Three other agencies were called in to help and only one of the firefighters on the scene said he'd been to a rescue like this before.

Marc McElreath/ Batallion Chief, West Jordan Fire Dept.: "The last thing he could remember was a gal, years ago, had her head caught in a pizza oven, and that kind of brought that back to use how they got her to get him out of this situation."

Authorities say it took over an hour to free the man. They described it as a slow, methodical process, saying any time they tried to move the loading dock or the trailer they ran a greater risk of injuring the victim.

The man was given medication to ease the pain. Emergency teams cut a hole in the side of the trailer and even used air bags during the rescue. Once he was freed, a medical helicopter flew him to LDS Hospital.

And as we mentioned, he's in stable condition this morning. As for how the man got himself in this mess in the first place, authorities have no idea. They just say he's extremely lucky things ended so well.
