Nishi Gupta ReportingA shooting on Interstate-15 could have been deadly. There have been changes in the details all day long, but investigators have been able to keep up and believe they have found those responsible.

You might call Edmond Alonso lucky. There are two bullet holes in his truck, but not one of them hit him.

It started in the morning when Alonso and a couple friends left a dance. While he was driving on I-15, he says a car pulled up to his truck and started shooting. Alonso says he ducked and told his friends to get down. When police asked for his story..

Edmond Alonso: “No speak English.”

He knew enough to tell them one car's license plate. That led police to an apartment building where they found three people of interest: Rueben Ortega, Naomi Raone and a 16-year old boy, who police believe was the shooter. They found a gun in the apartment, another in the car.

Lt. Steve Myer, Utah Highway Patrol: “Plain view evidence that basically tied this together for us, appeared to be a weapon.”

Alonso told officers there was a second car but after a little investigation, they believe there isn't one. Alonso said he didn't know any of the shooters, but before he left the club they accused one of his friends of damaging a car. That's when the chase began, from 5300 South to 9000 South on 1-15.

Lt. Steve Myer says Alonso did the right thing.

Lt. Myer: "Proceeded off an off ramp to a more busy, populated area where there's lot's of lighting."

And at that point the car drove away from him and Alonso called police for help.

The Department of Public Safety tells us Rueben Ortega and Naomi Raone have been cited for obstruction of justice and released. They believe the third, a minor, was the shooter. DPS says he will be charged with discharge of a firearm and could face an attempted murder charge as well.
