Sandra Bullock teams up with Bradley Cooper at the box office this weekend, playing an offbeat crossword puzzle creator who falls for a TV cameraman in the new movie "All About Steve."

Bullock stars as Mary, an ever optimistic constructor of crossword puzzles for a Sacramento newspaper. When Mary is set up for a blind date, she's braced for a disaster. But when Steve, a cameraman for CCN played by Bradley Cooper, shows up, our love-starved heroine gets in the car and attacks the guy.

When a call from work rescues him he mutters that he's sorry he has to go and, gee, I wish you could join me. Guess what? She takes him seriously and starts to follow him from assignment to assignment.

Thomas Hayden Church, a CCN reporter longing for the anchor desk, notices how smart she is and incorporates the information she can spout into his reports. He decides to encourage her pathetic behavior by telling her that Steve really loves her. All of this is supposed to be hilarious as this poor misguided woman stalks poor old Steve who is totally creeped out.

Bullock's role is embarrassing. She's too good for this and too old to be playing this character. Thomas Haden Church is ridiculous, but not in a good way. The best performance comes from Cooper but that's not saying much.

"All About Steve" is a turkey. What an unforgivable waste of talent. It's rated PG-13.
