Jed Boal ReportingMany Utah men and women play important roles in the war on terror. One Roosevelt native recently received some national attention for his role. His parents describe him as a fun-loving kid with a big heart. But he also set lofty goals for himself and went after them.

Captain Colby Jenkins of Roosevelt grew up to lead Special Operations in Afghanistan, rooting out the remnants of the Taliban and al Qaeda. Last week, former NBC Nightly News Anchor Tom Brokaw talked with Jenkins for a special report.

Jenkins was very close to his grandfather, a World War II veteran with similar goals.

Lynn Labrum, Soldier's Grandfather: "I bet he tells them something, he doesn't have to tell them twice. He could be firm."

Diana Jenkins, Soldier's Mother: "He says we're over there to get the bad guys, but the humanity part of it has been a comfort to him, what they've accomplished."

Dennis Jenkins, Soldier's Father: “There is a price for our freedom. This is exemplified in this community and in the basin, people that have those kind of values.”

Tonight on the Eyewitness News at Ten, find out about the Captain's special relationship with his grandfather and how that inspired him to a career in the Army.
