Three crashes as a shooting victim tries to control his car while swerving into oncoming traffic.
A 17-year-old is dead and another person is in the hospital after Wednesday’s shooting in West Valley.
As of late Wednesday night, 4100 South between 27th and 32nd West was still closed as police collected evidence.
Police found a green Dodge Neon that they believe was involved in the shooting, and are questioning several suspects. Police say they are still looking for other suspects as well.
Lt. Kelly Rushton, West Valley Police Dept: “This is a very large crime scene, a lot of people saw bits and pieces of it, so we are trying to put those puzzle pieces together.”
Around 5 pm two cars were speeding down 41st South. Someone in one of the cars pulled out a gun and shot the driver in the other car.
Lt. Kelly Rushton, West Valley Police Dept: “We don’t know if it was road rage, or gang related. They are very real possibilities at this point.”
After being hit, the 17-year-old driver crossed over to the westbound lane and hit a couple of vehicles, then hit a third vehicle head-on.
Amanda Braithwaite, Witness: “I heard screeching, then kaboom.”
The 17-year-old and the driver involved in the head-on were flown to the hospital. The 17-year-old died late Wednesday night. The driver involved in the head-on was in stable but critical condition.
