(KSL News) -- A West Valley motor officer is recovering after a near miss with a dump truck.
The officer had just finished a traffic stop and was parked on the side of the road. A truck driver hit the brakes to avoid slamming into cars stopped in construction congestion. But instead of stopping, the driver lost control and rammed into the officer's bike.
LaMonte Cox, West Valley City Police Dept.: "Anytime an officer's on the side of the road or you're in a construction area, yeah, you definitely need to leave yourself some more room. Slow down a little bit and pay attention to the traffic in front of you, not on the side."
The officer saw the truck coming and jumped off the bike, but the impact of the crash still sent him down the road. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.
