MOAB, Utah (AP) -- A Texas man will serve up to life in prison for running over his girlfriend with his car and killing her last summer at Arches National Park.
Ricky James Cunningham, of Richwood, Texas, was sentenced today to between five years and life for felony murder. Another sentence of zero to five years was tacked on for a felony drunk driving charge.
Cunningham pleaded guilty to the charges in April in an agreement with prosecutors, who dropped eight other counts against him.
Police alleged Cunningham was driving the car last August that struck 34-year-old Rhonda Rosenbalm, of Seabrook, Texas, at the Moab Fault Overlook.
Witnesses told police they saw the couple arguing before she was struck by the car.
