GREEN RIVER, Utah (AP) -- A Colorado homicide suspect apparently shot himself in the head just before a Utah Highway Patrol sergeant happened upon the mortally wounded man on Interstate 70 in southeastern Utah.
Sgt. Scott Robertson was westbound on the freeway in Grand County at about 7 p.m. Saturday when he saw a car parked on the highway's shoulder with its emergency lights flashing.
Inside the car, Robertson found Vinh Xuan Nguyen, 34, of Westminster, Colo., bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head, the Grand County Sheriff's Office said.
Nguyen was flown to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo., where he was pronounced dead Monday.
Nguyen was a suspect in the slaying of a 3-year-old girl in Westminster, the sheriff's office said.
