SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A Philadelphia auction house today sold the last will and testament of former LDS church president Brigham Young for 70-thousand dollars.
Bidding on the will opened at 25-thousand dollars and lasted just two minutes.
The will directs payments of twenty-five dollars a month to Young's 18 living wives and to the children and grandchildren of three deceased wives.
Artifact consultant Bob Lucas says the will is the original. He compared the document to 35 others bearing Young's original signature to make the determination.
Lucas says the will was bought by a private collector, who wants to remain anonymous.
The seller was the estate of James Clifford McNally, a probate attorney and judge in Salt Lake City during the 1880s.
How McNally got the will is a mystery.
