(KSL News) -- The most recent domestic murder occurred last night in Herriman.

Police say two brothers discovered the bodies of their mother and her common law husband in the entryway of their home.

Police say 34-year old Jacqueline Villoto apparently died from stab wounds and 46-year old Jairo Ortega from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Sgt Paul Jaroscak, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office: "As you can imagine, it would be difficult as it is, but there is one who is severely traumatized. We're treating all the kids with kid gloves and doing our best to learn what we can about this incident, at the same time looking out for their welfare."

Rory Phillips, Neighbor: "The boys are active in sports, in school sports and in church and in scouting. The mother was an active member of the Mormon church. Good, good people."

Villoto had three sons, ages 12, 14 and 15. Police also found a five-year old girl upstairs in the home. The woman was apparently babysitting the little girl. It is unclear how much she saw.
