Investigators say Toone was traveling westbound on 1500 North in Maeser around 7:20 p.m. and didn't stop at the intersection of 3500 West. His van was hit broadside by a truck traveling southbound on 3500 West.

The mini-van then hit a telephone pole before coming to rest. Toone died at the scene.

The driver of the truck and his passenger were taken to Ashley Regional Medical Center. No word on their conditions.

The sheriff's office doesn't know why Toone ran the stop sign; however drugs or alcohol are not believed to be involved.
