(KSL News) -- The wildfire season is here. A 3,000 acre blaze is burning tonight near St. George.
Wednesday morning, lightning started what's been named the Red Fire. Afternoon thunderstorms ignited another seven fires around Washington County.
At one point, the Red Fire burned within a mile of the small community of Motoqua, but firefighters and afternoon rains helped keep the flames away from the town. Wednesday evening, the blaze was 40-percent contained.
