Last year we set out to increase our coverage of local sports, especially college football. We introduced Cougar Tracks (a daily BYU blog by Greg Wrubell), weekly features leading up to game day (game previews and interviews with coaches) and the best post game coverage available (highlights, recaps and interviews).

Along with providing a live stream to listen to BYU games, we created live game blogs to cover all of the Utes' football games. The blogs were so successful last season that I got the go ahead to do them again this season.

What new features can you expect this season?
Well, we are in the process of creating a user interactive Mountain West Conference Fan Poll where users can rank the MWC teams from 1-9 (hopefully it will be on the site later today). Next Tuesday (Sept. 1), we will release an "official" KSL MWC Power Poll, which will be voted on by members of the sports staff. It will be interesting to see how our Power Poll matches up with the Fan Poll.

Over the next few days we will post 2008 season reviews for Utah and BYU (Utah State's version is already online) as well as 2009 season predictions for each team.

Once the season begins, we will create a Local Player of the Week poll on the site. Players from all Utah colleges will be eligible, and the winner will be spotlighted on SportsBeat Sunday.

What about Prep football?
We are excited to launch Friday Night Flights. Chopper Five and the KSL News team will be making the rounds each Friday night to high school football games around the state, showing the best schools have to offer on and off the field.

We also have launched an exclusive KSL Coaches Prep Poll where coaches from around the state rank the top five teams in each classification (5A, 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A).

Each Friday night, you can expect the latest scores and highlights to be posted (here are week 1's scores/highlights). Later in the weekend after all the stats have been collected we will highlight the top 5 player performances from around the state as well.
