OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Scott Muir has resigned as director of the George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park in Ogden effective Aug. 1, citing disagreement with the park's foundation.

"The leadership of the Ogden Dinosaur Park and Museum Foundation has made it increasingly difficult for me to apply my considerable expertise and experience in further realizing the potential of the park as a world-class attraction without equal," Muir said in a written statement. "Consequently, I have elected to resign my position as director of the park."

Muir declined Thursday to elaborate on his reason for leaving the $70,000-a-year post he has held since October.

Muir previously worked as marketing director for Groen Brothers Aviation in Salt Lake City and as director of economic development for Tooele County. He also was a consultant for various museums and historical sites, including Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia.

Foundation Chairman Gary Kapp said the board is surprised by Muir's resignation. The park is operated by Ogden, but the foundation has the right to make suggestions regarding the facility, and Muir seems to be uncomfortable with that arrangement, Kapp said.

"What surprised me is that he was told of that arrangement when he was interviewed for the job," he said. "He will be missed."

The city will likely begin a search for a new director, Kapp said.

Eccles Dinosaur Park had about 130,000 visitors last year. It features skeletal, robotic and life-sized, full-body dinosaur replicas.
