SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- After being up and running for only a week, a Web site that mapped the addresses of registered sex offenders has shut down.
Mark Olsen who works for the company that designed the site says he was told by the Utah Department of Corrections that as many as two-thirds of the database's addresses may be incorrect.
The department maintains the database of registered sex offenders.
Olsen says the site has been receiving between 15-thousand and 30-thousand hits every day since it launched last week.
Olsen says the company had planned to launch similar sites for every state. However, he says those plans are on hold while they confirm the data it has collected in other states.
The Web site is www.mapsexoffenders.com.
